Umar Nurmagomedov, Tagir Ulanbekov delay journey to Fight Island following the passing of Khabib’s dad.
It’s been a sad day for the Nurmagomedov family as it was revealed that UFC lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov’s father, Abdulmanap had died following a lengthy battle with the coronavirus. Now, two teammates and family of Khabib, Umar Nurmagomedov and Tagir Ulanbekov, have reportedly delayed their UFC fights on Fight Island due to the death. It’s unclear if they will fight on the card at all.
Umar is Khabib’s cousin and Abdulmanap’s nephew. He was signed with the UFC in early 2020 and was set to make his promotional debut against Nathaniel Wood at UFC Fight Island 3 on July 25. There is still plenty of time for Umar to get to the island and fight, but for now, he has delayed his trip.
Tagir Ulanbekov was set to face Aleksander Doskalchuk on July 15, 2020, at UFC Fight Island 1. He doesn’t have as much time to delay his departure to Fight Island but his fight has not been canceled officially yet.
