20. Nick Diaz vs. Carlos Condit – UFC 143
Undeniably, this fight will go down as the biggest disappointment on the list. Not only when it comes to interim title fights, but maybe just “fights”. Period.
And that’s not exactly to say that the highly anticipated Nick Diaz vs. Carlos Condit bout was bad. It was close and competitive throughout… and it had a controversial outcome. The fight just didn’t live up to the all-out excitement that fans had hoped for between two of the sport’s biggest fan favorites.
Most would be in agreement that that’s Condit’s fault as he fought using an incredibly smart, yet safe, gameplan. One where he looked to work off the back foot and counter Diaz as opposed to engaging frequently to find a knockout. If it came, he’d take it. But it never did and he still came out victorious in a fight that still infuriates any Diaz fan to this day just when mentioned.
19. Frank Mir vs. Shane Carwin – UFC 111
For what it was, Frank Mir vs. Shane Carwin preceding Georges St-Pierre vs. Dan Hardy in March 2010 wasn’t all too bad. But what it was wasn’t much.
Going into this fight Carwin was a horrifying 11-0 as he’d left every man who’d stepped to him prior in a crumbled waste of themselves. The former champion in Mir, on the other hand, was looking to secure what would have been a massive trilogy bout with the then-champion Brock Lesnar.
Instead, Carwin would play spoiler and add the BJJ ace to his hit list.
Engaging in a clinch battle for essentially the entirety of the one-round fight which saw Carwin controlling his opponent, an unleashing of his massive mitts in tight would spell Mir’s demise.
It was yet another impressive win for the Greeley, Colorado native, and ended up being the biggest win of his career as well as his last.
