Conor McGregor reveals weird fight tradition after Anthony Smith loses his teeth at UFC Jacksonville

Following the conclusion of the UFC Jacksonville main event, Conor McGregor dropped a little-known fact about teeth that get lost during UFC fights

One of the more memorable — and controversial — points of the UFC Jacksonville main event between Anthony Smith and Glover Teixeira took place between the fourth and fifth rounds, where Smith told his corner his teeth were falling out. And following the event’s conclusion, Conor McGregor interjected with perhaps some MMA knowledge most don’t know about.

Some people noted that they could see Smith handing referee Jason Herzog what appeared to be a tooth that fell out of his mouth as he dealt with damaging shots by Teixeira.

Following the fight, as the conversation and concern rolled in across social media, McGregor made a post stating that teeth lost during fights are kept in quite a bizarre-sounding place: in milk that’s near the Octagon

“Unknown fact – they keep a big pint of milk cage side for any teeth that [get] knocked out mid-fight,” McGregor tweeted. “What a game!”

While there were no medical professionals or UFC staff to immediately verify this, some Twitter users replying to the tweet say that keeping the tooth in the milk will help keep the roots alive, allowing a better chance for the tooth to be re-attached.

Smith informing his corner of the lost tooth was part of the controversy coming in the immediate aftermath of the main event bout, as Smith gassed out by the third round and took what many are calling way too much damage before the fight was mercifully stopped during the fifth round.

Smith’s head coach, Marc Montoya, claimed to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto that Smith has had veneers fall out during practice and felt Smith was never out of the fight.

According to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, however, Smith did lose two legit teeth during the fight, as well as suffering a broken orbital bone and other injuries.
