We could have forgiven Jeremy Stephens for missing weight at UFC 249, but we probably won’t.
UFC 249, the first fight card back during the pandemic was always going to be a bit of a mess but, to the credit of the fighters, the coaches, and the UFC everything has gone off relatively well. Then enter Jeremey Stephens’ weigh-in debacle.
The featherweight stepped on the scale in Jacksonville a full four and a half pounds over his 146-pound weight limit rendering him over for his bout with Calvin Kattar. Fans grappled with the idea of cutting Stephens some slack due to the uncertainty of the pandemic affects … until every other fighter on the card made weight.
Of the 24 fighters no one but Stephens missed weight … and he missed by a lot.
This proves that the lifely reason for the overage wasn’t due to the challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic, seeing as none of the other 24 fighters seemed affected.
That, paired with Stephens’ history of not making weight. it makes the fans feel just a tiny bit less sorry for him.
Here’s what a few fans had to say.

Even some professionals had their opinion about the overage.

Fuck no. If you can’t make weight you should fight

At press time there was no news on the status of the UFC 249 main card bout or what Stephens fine would be.
