Conor McGregor made his return to the Octagon at UFC 246, where he finished Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in just 40 seconds inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV.

McGregor intended for this fight to serve as the start of a “comeback season” after a 2019 that saw him accused of two sexual assaults in Ireland, get arrested for smashing a fan’s phone in Miami and punch an elderly gentleman in a Dublin pub.

Read McGregor’s post-fight remarks below:

“I changed levels. [I] came up into it, so it was a good shot. Ireland, baby!

“I made history here tonight. I’m the first fighter to secure a knockout victory in three divisions — at featherweight, at lightweight and now at welterweight!

“My team has been phenomenal…all these people have been phenomenal!

“I knew he wasn’t expecting that level change…I’m so happy. UFC can strip fighters and give fighters make-believe belts but they can’t take away knockout finishes.”

McGregor then turned his attention to the future, keeping his options open but eyeing welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, “BMF” belt holder Jorge Masvidal and Paul Felder (the former two welterweights in the crowd and the latter lightweight on commentary).

“I like this weight division, I feel really good…[but] I’ve definitely got work to do to get back where I was,” McGregor said.

“Any one of these mouthy fools can get it.”

The fight marked McGregor‘s first bout since being submitted by Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 in October 2018. That, in turn, was McGregor’s first fight since winning the UFC lightweight title from Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 in November 2016.
