Jorge Masvidal’s “three-piece and a soda” liner he dropped in his comments in the aftermath of UFC London was the funniest moment of 2019.

Jorge Masvidal had quite the takeover of the MMA world in 2019, a year that saw plenty of entertaining moments from the sport’s world. But there was one phrase that Masvidal dropped, following his major, momentum-building victory and aftermath at UFC London in March, that had MMA fans laughing their heads off and using it to their own, marking the funniest moment of the year.

These simple words: three-piece and a soda.

Masvidal came into UFC London, his first bout in over a year and not many expected him to do much when he took on countryman Darren Till, who was looking to rebound from being unsuccessful in a UFC 228 welterweight title shot.

What instead happened was Masvidal blasting Till for a knockout, silencing the crowd and starting off a memorable year that only got bigger — even later that night.

During a post-fight interview backstage with ESPN, Leon Edwards, who had his own win that night, began to trash talk Masvidal not far away from the set. Masvidal ended the interview abruptly, slowly making his way over to Edwards before landing a combination of punches on him.

Later on, in an interview with ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, Masvidal opened up about the backstage incident and dropped the catchphrase.

“I tell him ‘Just say it to my face,’ Masvidal recalled. “You’re saying it and walking away…we’re both men. As I’m walking up to him, I got my hands behind my back to signal ‘I’m not coming here for problems.’ But he put his hands up and walks towards me…well, where I’m from, if you do that, you’re going to punch me in the face. That’s not going to happen. You’re a loser in life, man. You’re not going to get a hit off me.

“Gave him a three-piece with a soda and then just glide out of there.”

Masvidal and Edwards have not faced off since, and it seems Masvidal isn’t interested in such a fight. But if they ever do, there’ll be plenty of bad blood from this incident.

But since this, Masvidal scored the fastest knockout in UFC history at UFC 239 and headlined UFC 244 in the BMF title fight with Nate Diaz. Combine Masvidal’s charisma, this line included, and his in-cage ability and wins this year, it’s no wonder why 2019 may just have been his year.
