Former UFC fighter Elias Theodorou takes to Twitter following his release from the organization.
Over the past several days the UFC has released a number of fighters from the organization. Among the fighters released was middleweight, Elias Theodorou. The news came as a surprise to fans of Theodorou, who suffered his first loss in four fights. Theodorou came to the UFC as a member of The Ultimate Fighter: Nations season. Theodorou was the middleweight winner that season and when on to win seven more fights in the UFC over the past five years. Shortly after news of his release became public, Theodorou took to Twitter to address his fans.
Following his last loss to Derek Brunson, Theodorou was criticized by many on social media about his fighting style. The unorthodox style is what kept him successful in the UFC for so long. The Canadian was a fan favorite and a staple whenever the promotion took an event to Canada. In addition to fighting, Theodorou moonlights as a “Ring Boy” for the Invicta FC fight promotion.
“I’m excited to have my banner & shorts for sponsorship.,” Theodorou wrote on Twitter. “Two longtime partners are global & would love their logo in either Europe or Asia. That 1 deal is worth more than a win. Excited for the future. #themaneevent #weedbae #ringboy is fight single & ready to mingle!”
Theodorou spoke of moving to a fight promotion in Asia as a possibility. In the past year, several UFC fighters have chosen to make the move to ONE Championship including former flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson, former lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez, and Sage Northcutt. As for sponsorships, as a result of leaving the UFC Theodorou will now be able to wear his sponsors on his shorts inside the cage, something that because of the UFC’s deal with Reebok was not an option. Theodorou has had many big sponsors in the past including shampoo and CBD companies.
