Brazilian Ricardo Ramos stopped Aiemann Zahabi in the opening fight of UFC 217 with a thrilling finish.

UFC 217 will be opened and closed with members of the famed Tristar gym as the younger brother of highly regarded head trainer Firas Zahabi, Aiemann Zahabi, and teammate of main event star, Georges St-Pierre, opened up the card against Brazilian Ricardo Ramos.

Zahabi (7-0)  came into the bout with a spotless record that includes a nine-fight winning streak.

Zahabi was making his second appearance in the UFC after picking up a unanimous decision victory over another Brazilian, Reginaldo Vieira at UFC Fight Night 105.

Ramos (10-1) was trying to pick up his second win in the UFC after being discovered on Dana White’s reality show, “Looking for a Fight”.

Both fighters came out aggressive, but Ramos was quickly able to land a hard leg kick that seemed to restrict the movement of Zhahabi.

Both fighters were able to secure takedowns before escaping off the mat. The first round ended with both fighters jostling for position along the cage. Ramos appeared to take the first round.

Ramos continued to attack the left leg to open up the second round before Zhahabi was able to land a good right hand that backed up Ramos. Zhababi took control of the second with flush jabs that opened up a cut on Ramos.  Both fighters stayed on their feet and exchanged jabs which seemed to favor Zhahabi, who might have taken round two.

With the fight seemingly at one round a piece, the third and final round saw both fighters going back to their jabs before Ramos was able to land a spinning back fist that landed on Zahabi.  Ramos immediately went back with another spinning back elbow that landed flush on the jaw of Zahabi and knocked him out cold to end the fight at 1:58 of the third round.
