20. Shogun Rua
From his days in Pride to his great fights in the UFC, Shogun is a legend in every sense of the word. Winning big fights against Rampage Jackson, Lil’ Nog and Alistair Overeem, Shogun had an aggressive style that definitely pleased the fans. The highlight of his career was when he knocked out Lyoto Machida to capture the UFC’s light heavyweight title.
19. Mirko Cro Cop
“Right kick hospital, left leg cemetery.” This is a phrase that has been extremely relevant throughout Cro Cop’s career. Cro Cop has by far the most devastating head kicks in UFC history, and many fighters have been victim to his vicious attack, including Wanderlei Silva and Aleksander Emelianenko.
18. Tito Ortiz
With some of the best ground and pound in MMA history, Tito Ortiz was able to use his wrestling pedigree to his advantage in a lot of his fights. A long time UFC light heavyweight champion, he has wins over Evan Tanner, Ken Shamrock and Vitor Belfort. One of the best light heavyweights of all time.
17. Bas Rutten
Starting out in Pancrase, Rutten stood out because of his great striking. But, recognizing the need to evolve to compete with the rest of the MMA world, he began to work on his ground game and became one of the most well-rounded fighters in the sport. Now a commentator, Rutten’s knowledge of the sport is second to none and he’s also in the UFC Hall of Fame.
16. Kazushi Sakuraba
One of the greatest submission artists in MMA history, Sakuraba has submitted very accomplished grapplers throughout his MMA career, including Carlos Newton and Renzo Gracie. Although he only competed in the UFC at the beginning of his career, it’s hard to deny just how great of a fighter this man was.
